Fixed index annuity (FIA) snapshots — May 2026
FIAs credit interest based on a market index (most often the S&P 500) without putting principal at market risk. The contract limits upside through one of several mechanisms below. The income rider section shows what a separate fee-based rider can guarantee for lifetime income.
| Product Feature | Competitive Range* | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 Annual Point-to-Point (cap) | 9.00–10.50% | Cap rate on 1-year crediting term |
| S&P 500 Annual Point-to-Point (par) | 55–70% | Participation rate; no cap |
| 2-Year Point-to-Point with Spread | 1.00–1.75% | Spread/asset fee; uncapped upside |
| Income Rider Roll-up | 7.00–8.50% | Simple-interest roll-up on income base |
| Lifetime Withdrawal % (age 65, single) | 5.50–6.25% | Withdrawal % on income base at activation |
*Carrier-survey ranges from major FIA issuers (Athene, F&G, American Equity, Allianz, Nationwide, Lincoln). Specific cap, participation, and roll-up rates vary by product, surrender period, and rider election. Quotes are illustrative — actual contract terms determine the binding values.
How to read these rates
- MYGA rate — credited interest, compounded annually for the full surrender period. After the term ends, the rate resets or the contract can be exchanged 1035-style into a new contract without triggering tax.
- Cap rate — maximum interest credited in a single crediting period (typically 1 year). If the S&P 500 returns 14% and your cap is 10%, you get 10%. If the index drops, your floor is 0%.
- Participation rate — percentage of the index gain you receive. With a 60% participation rate and a 12% index gain, you get 7.2%.
- Roll-up rate — guaranteed growth on the income base used to calculate future lifetime income. Roll-up rates apply only to the income base, not to your walk-away cash value.
- Lifetime withdrawal % — when income is turned on, the percentage of the income base paid each year for life. Higher at older activation ages.
